We are pleased to let you know that Bo gave birth to five healthy and happy puppies on Sunday the 17th of September. She has one boy and four girls! Bo is healthy and easily settling into being a mum!
ONE WEEK OLD, FEED, SLEEP, REPEAT!
During the first week of the puppy's life, they are born with closed eyes and ears, making them unable to see or hear. Their front limbs are strong enough to help them move towards Bo when discomfort prompts them to cry, and she responds by comforting them.
The puppies cannot regulate their body temperature and require Bo's warmth or their heating pad.
By the end of the week, their birth weight has doubled. The puppies have mainly been sleeping and feeding to gain strength and weight.
The puppies' sense of smell is fully functional at this stage, and they use it to find Bo's teats and littermates. Their eyes begin to open partially, but their vision remains poor. Canine socialization begins during this period, which lasts for 12 to 16 weeks.
